iPad Access to Corporate File Server

mCloud iPad file access

Tablets and smartphones are entering the workforce in droves. By 2015: 300 million tablets and over 2 billion smartphones will be actively deployed.  While a majority of these devices are personal devices, they are increasingly used for work as well: according to Gartner: Over 90% of corporations will support corporate applications on personal devices by 2013.  As employees bring these personal devices to work, corporations are faced with the challenge of providing secure access to corporate file data from these devices.
The needs are clear:

  1. Secure mobile access to corporate file shares, SharePoint and other document repositories
  2. Secure sharing of data from mobile devices while preventing data leakage

There are several challenges:

  1. Risk of VPN clients on portable personal devices: Most corporations are not installing VPN clients on personal mobile devices because of the security risk associated with giving unfettered network access to these devices because they are not a corporate asset.
  2. Security: Ensuring that all data transmission and storage on the device is encrypted.
  3. Authentication: Ensuring that there is easy to manage multi-factor authentication before the device can access data.
  4. Offline access: Ensuring access to selected data even when the mobile device is not connected to any network, i.e. offline.
  5. Policy controls: Policy controls to specify if the user can upload, download, save locally, email, or open it in other applications.

Copiun mCloud FS software

Copiun mCloud FS software is an enterprise class solution that enables secure access to corporate file data from mobile devices even when the devices are not connected via VPN.  Copiun’s patent pending Secure Access Gateway enables secure access without requiring any corporate firewall reconfiguration.
Key Features:

  1. Publish content to mobile devices: Administrators can define network locations the contents of which are then automatically published to the mobile devices in a secure way.
  2. Access home directories or public network shares: Administrators can configure the solution so that end users can access their home directories and public network shares using exactly the same drive letters.
  3. Access SharePoint sites: Users can access, check in/check out, and upload documents to SharePoint while maintaining permissions.
  4. Enterprise Class Security:
    1. Encryption: All data is encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption before transmission or storage on the mobile device.
    2. Access Security that meets your needs: The following access methods are supported:
      1. GOOD: via VPN or corporate network: Access when mobile devices are connected via VPN or corporate network.
      2. BEST: Access via Secure Access Gateway: Copiun’s patent pending Secure Access Gateway provides secure access to only the resources that are published to a mobile device. This ensures the highest degree of security because unlike VPN solutions, the mobile device is never physically connected to the corporate network.
    3. Active Directory compatible: end users simply use their existing Active Directory credentials – no need to learn a new set of username passwords.
    4. Multi-factor authentication: In addition to a user’s Active Directory credentials, there is a security token associated with the mobile device as well, which provides multi-factor authentication.
    5. Control ability to upload to file servers or SharePoint: Enable or disable users' ability to upload documents they modify or receive from external sources.
    6. Control ability to save to the local storage on the device: Administrators have the option of controlling whether end users can save data locally.
    7. Control ability to email documents:  Administrators have the option of controlling whether end users can email documents.
    8. Control ability to open documents in other applications: Administrators have the option of controlling whether end users can open documents in other applications.
  5. Easy anywhere access, even when offline: Mobile devices can securely access data that has been published to them anywhere, even when offline (requires ability to save to local storage on the device)
  6. Easy sharing: End users can easily share data with other users right from their mobile device.
  7. Support for Good Dynamics: Using Good Technologies for an MDM solution? Use Copiun's mCloud FS to access documents within Good's secure container.
